Born & raised in Monroe County, Kentucky, David Young is a lifelong native of the Southcentral Kentucky area. After receiving degrees from EKU and WKU, he began his career in education at Allen County Schools in 1974.

During his time as a teacher, he assisted with the launch of the girls basketball program for AC-S High School and coached the team, leading them to several state tournament appearances. After serving as an educator, he transitioned into administrative roles serving as assistant and head principal and safety coordinator. After retirement from the school system, David followed a passion of administration and education by serving as the administrator of the Daymar College Scottsville campus where he aided displaced workers with educational, career focused opportunities.

Along with his deep roots in education, David and his wife, Karen, were also owners of a small retail business called The Blue Saltbox that they started in their home. For years, The Blue Saltbox was a staple of the Scottsville square and local economy. Together, David and Karen have taken on similar entrepreneurial endeavors from operating residential rental property and event planning services.

David is a devoted husband for 46 years and a father of two children and four grandchildren. He is a member of Scottsville Baptist Church, both Scottsville and Franklin Chamber of Commerce organizations, The Core of Scottsville and Allen County, and Allen County Retired Teachers.

A Letter from
David Young

09-17-20

Greetings from the campaign trail,

I have had several people post questions on social media asking about my stance on the two hot-button issues that dominate politics especially on the national stage, so I thought I would address these here so that people know where I stand.

Abortion:  I am Pro Life.
My Christian beliefs tell me that all life is precious and should be protected.  I will advocate for affordable healthcare for all Kentuckians. This would ensure that all women have access to the necessary healthcare and birth control. I believe that this in itself may stop someone from thinking that abortion is the only choice.

Gun Control: I believe in the 2nd Amendment
and the right to bear arms.  I think that all law-abiding citizens should be able to buy and keep guns.

Now that have expressed my personal beliefs, I think that the job of State Representative is just what it says, to represent the citizens of the 22nd District of Kentucky. I pledge that I will seek out and listen to your thoughts and concerns about every issue that comes before me and formulate my actions based on feedback from you!

I am not naive, I realize that there will be times when not everyone will agree with every decision made, but I have years of experience at bringing together people with opposing views for the good of the community.

Just as Rep. Wilson Stone and Rep. Rob Wilkey have done for the last 24 years, I will not only represent your interest, but even more importantly, I will work tirelessly to be your biggest advocate in the 22nd District, in Frankfort and around the world!

It’s no coincidence that the districts that are advancing and thriving in Kentucky have a strong person representing them. A Representative that can work across the aisle with Democrats, Republicans and Independents to secure the best healthcare, jobs, schools, roads and infrastructure for their communities is imperative. I intend on being that kind of Representative by listening to and working with state and local leaders in each county to get the very best for the 22nd District.

I would be happy to address any other issues or concerns you might have, just reach out to me at David@youngforkentucky.org

I humbly ask for your support and Vote on November 3rd.

David Young

A Letter from
Wilson Stone

I am proud to support and endorse David Young for State Representative for the 22nd District of Kentucky, the seat that I have had the honor of filling for the last 12 years.

David Young grew up in Monroe County, but he has spent his entire professional life in Allen County. David is a retired educator and a coach who was able to lead the Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriots to the Girls State Basketball Tournament numerous times. His reputation as a coach is impeccable.

After coaching, David moved on to serve as principal at the Allen County-Scottsville High School. Again, his performance as an administrator was without question, working to bring students, parents, teachers, and the community together to make public education in Allen County the best it could be.  After retiring from the school system, David answered the call to help start a post high school, adult education college in Scottsville to re-train displaced workers from the 2008 recession.

David knows business--he and his wife Karen ran a boutique retail shop as well as a catering business; his work transforming farmland into residential property will certainly be useful to him in the state legislature.

David is a family man and a dedicated Christian and member of Scottsville Baptist Church.  He and Karen have raised two daughters and have four grandchildren. David and his family have always been major contributors to this community. David has a strong familiarity and love for this part of Kentucky.

He has both the background and desire to be an effective legislator for the people of the 22nd House District and that’s why I’m voting for David Young for State Representative!
